What is CAPTIVATE?
CAPTIVATE KY is a statewide initiative focused on building Kentucky’s first centralized climate data infrastructure. Funded by an $8 million National Science Foundation (NSF) award, CAPTIVATE KY is designed to strengthen the state’s resilience to climate-related natural disasters.
Vision Statement
The vision of CAPTIVATE KY is to increase the capacity and connectivity of the research ecosystem across Jurisdiction partners and integrate closely with Kentucky communities to expedite high-quality, effective solutions to existing and rising challenges in our state.
Mission Statement
The mission of CAPTIVATE KY is to cultivate collaboration in environmental preparedness and resilience research by creating and sustaining an open data and communication network for more effective coordination of R&D and education in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Through accessible data tools, public engagement, and educational programming, CAPTIVATE KY will empower Kentuckians to make informed decisions, reduce risk, and prepare for a changing climate.
The project will also support STEM workforce development by introducing new curriculum in high schools and expanding access to training in data science, environmental monitoring, and climate solutions.
CAPTIVATE Collaborators
CAPTIVATE KY is led by the Kentucky Science and Engineering Foundation (KSEF) and supported by a growing network of statewide partners.
