The Kentucky Science and Engineering Foundation (KSEF), an initiative of the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation (KSTC), is pleased to announce the latest winners of its microAwards Pitch Competition: Calloway Advanced Technologies, Transcend LLC and Ultrasonic Therapeutics.
Following a recent redesign into a live pitch format, representatives from each company presented their innovations to a panel of judges. Participants highlighted their technologies and demonstrated how microAward funding will support further development and position them for future federal SBIR/STTR (Small Business Innovation Research / Small Business Technology Transfer) opportunities. Each selected company will receive up to $5,000 to help refine their concepts and advance toward federal funding readiness.
Meet the Award-Winning Innovators
From advancements in cancer treatment to next-generation vehicle platforms, these companies represent the depth and diversity of Kentucky’s growing innovation ecosystem.
Calloway Advanced Technologies
Calloway Advanced Technologies is developing a high-pressure quick-disconnect fluid coupler for aerospace, defense and other fluid transport industries. Their Hand-actuated Locking Omni-seal (H.A.L.O.) addresses safety and reliability challenges by using aerospace-grade active metal sealing technology to eliminate leakage in critical fluid transfer operations. The system is designed for tool-free operation and extended cycle life.
Transcend LLC
Transcend LLC is developing an articulated vehicle platform aimed at preventing vehicle rollover, with initial applications across defense, space and commercial ATV markets. The technology seeks to reduce injuries, fatalities and economic losses while expanding the range of terrain that vehicles can safely navigate
Ultrasonic Therapeutics
Colorectal cancer remains the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, with current treatments often invasive and associated with high recurrence rates. Ultrasonic Therapeutics is developing a minimally invasive solution using a miniature probe that delivers targeted ultrasound waves to ablate tumors while enhancing the body’s immune response, changing the way we treat colorectal cancer.
Supporting Innovation Through the microAwards Competition
The microAwards program is designed to help early-stage companies bridge the gap between concept and competitive federal funding. Through targeted, early support, KSEF enables innovators to validate their ideas, strengthen technical feasibility, and build a foundation for strong SBIR/STTR proposals. This investment helps position Kentucky-based startups for long-term growth, commercialization, and impact.
Congratulations to Calloway Advanced Technologies, Transcend LLC and Ultrasonic Therapeutics on their achievements in this year’s microAwards Pitch Competition. KSEF looks forward to supporting their continued progress and future milestones.
